Eeek! The Evil Queen is after me! Just like she was after Snow White. If you glance above the entrance to Snow White’s Scary Adventures in Fantasyland, day or night, you might see the Wicked Queen slowly part the velvet curtains and stare out over the courtyard. The Evil Queen or the Wicked Queen is a scary character from Walt Disney’s first animated movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, released in 1937. Her actual name is Queen Grimhilde.

She seems to live up in the tower of the German gothic-like castle that is the entrance to Snow White’s Scary Adventures in Fantasyland. Every 20-25 seconds, she slowly opens the curtains and peers out – keeping a watchful eye over the Castle courtyard.

Background

The movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, was based on a folk tale written by the Brothers Grimm who lived in Germany from the late 1700’s to the mid 1800’s. Walt Disney Productions took a huge risk in making this movie, as it was the first cel animated, feature length movie to be introduced to the movie-going public. Of course, it turned out to be a smashing success.

The movie premiered at the Carthay Circle Theater on San Vicente Boulevard in Los Angeles. While that theater no longer exists, you can still see a scale model of it today in Disney California Adventure Park (pictured above).
