Jungle Cruise’s “Backside of Water” and Grand Californian Hotel’s “Backside of Fire”

One of the most famous lines in the Jungle Cruise’s humorous spiel is heard when your skipper maneuvers the river boat *behind* the Schweitzer Falls overhang on the “Nile” river and proudly declares the “backside of water.”

One of the most famous lines in the Jungle Cruise’s humorous spiel is heard when your skipper maneuvers the boat behind the Schweitzer Falls overhang on the “Nile” river and proudly declares the “backside of water.” (You might even get sprayed if you’re on the port side.) And then you might also hear a pun that goes something like, ” or as we skippers like to call it, “O2H.”

Disney Grand Californian Hotel

Massive fireplace in the lobby of Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Spa

If you have ever been to the Disney Grand Californian Hotel, it’s impossible to miss the massive fireplace that dominates the lobby. Personally, I love to grab a cup of coffee first thing in the morning and spend a little time here on the rocking chairs.

The “Backside of Fire”

But did you know that just like the waterfall on Jungle Cruise, the Grand Californian also has a backside? I call it the “Backside of Fire.”

Directly behind the huge fireplace in the lobby is a much smaller version of a fireplace on the *outside* of the building.

Not many people seem to know about this “backside of fire.” It’s usually a lot less crowded but just as wonderful morning, noon, or night.
